$14,175.00 DONATION!

The Blackfoot Hockey Association would like to thank the former Seven Clubs Hockey Association and the East Calgary Twin Arenas Society for their generous donation to BHA.

ECTAS has donated $14,175 to BHA in the amalgamation of the Seven Clubs Hockey Association into Blackfoot Hockey Association. This amalgamation was effective in the 2009-2010 season and was as a result of the Hockey Calgary boundary review and approved in April 2009.

Approximately 180 players from all age categories were moved into the Blackfoot Hockey Association so that they could compete at a more competitive level.

The Blackfoot Hockey Association is greatful for this generous donation on behalf of the former Seven Clubs Hockey Association and the East Calgary Twin Arenas Society.

Thanks you.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I would like to share with you some recent discussions I had with the executive of the board of the Acadia Recreation Centre.  They are facing arena renovation costs in the next few years in the range of $1.2 million.

There are issues with the arena floor and unless they raise sufficient funds there is a risk that the ARC rink could become nonoperational in the future.  Clearly, this would pose a significant problem to Blackfoot.

While we only have approximately 25 families living in the area, all of Blackfoot benefits from the ARC ice.  The ARC is increasing its rates for the upcoming season and they currently allow us to rent their ice at approximately a 15% reduced rate.
The ARC is faced with an aging membership and as a result they are having difficulty with fundraising efforts.

As a significant user of the ARC ice, they are looking to Blackfoot to support them in their fundraising efforts.  Clearly, it is important that Blackfoot tries to help them as we get 575 hours of ice from the ARC and losing this facility would severely impact every team’s ice.  If Blackfoot does not support them, we face increased ice rental fees in the future and the potential of one less rink.

As we obtain more information regarding the ARC’s fundraising efforts we will pass them along to our membership.  Please continue to visit this website for updates as they become available.
Thank you,

Darren Drake
President, Blackfoot Hockey Association

FOUND ICE?
In the past BHA has allowed teams to find additional ice for their team. BHA would pay for the ice based on ice facility receipts. This policy was always a year by year policy.

Due to the additional ice at the ECTAS arena now in the BHA jurisdiction there is sufficient ice available for our teams. Therefore in 2009 there is no "Found Ice Policy".

If teams are able to locate and use additional ice the cost of that ice is on their account. BHA will NOT reimburse the team.
