| A RINK TO DIE FOR...
Billionaire Daryl Katz (Edmonton Oiler owner) built this outdoor rink next to his home overlooking the North Saskatchewan River. A house on the site was demolished long ago. Surrounding homes are worth $1 million.

 Hockey Canada - RULES REVIEW
We will try to feature different rules throughout the season to remind coaches and our membership of some of the finer points of the game.
WHEN REFEREES DON'T SHOW!
Hockey Canada Rule #5.2 (k) states:
"If for whatever reason, the Referee or Linesman appointed are prevented from appearing the Managers or Coaches of the two competing clubs shall agree on a referee and one or two Linesmen. If they are unable to agree, they shall appoint a player from each team who shall act as officials." |

ATTENTION NOVICE COACHES
Hockey Calgary has passed their proposal to create the new “Novice Development League”beginning in the 2009-2010 season. All those wishing to head coach Novice this year MUST attend a Coach Specialty clinic held by Hockey Calgary. This clinic is required in addition to the original coaching certifications required to coach Novice (Coach Level, Safety, Speak out). The Hockey Calgary Specialty Clinics are open to all assistant and head coaches. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this FREE course!

PRAISE FOR BLACKFOOT HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
I was just speaking to one of the goalie parents that are coming from Glenlake. He told me that everyone that he has spoken to, be it friends in Glenlake, Bow Valley or Crowfoot (or Crowchild), he was told that he is very lucky to be going to Blackfoot.
I told him that that was very nice to hear, you don't often find out what other people think of our organization. That is nice praise to be coming from our peers, and I wanted to pass that along.

BHA has a problem solving protocol that is mandated in our standing procedure #106. It is important that this process be followed to resolve any team issues throughout the season. If any step is missed you will be asked to go back and "follow the process", please.
PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS:
In this order...Parents take problems to;
(1) Parent Representative (who is voted in by Team parents),
(2) Team Manager,
(3) Coach,
(4) Category Director,
(5) Vice-President,
(6) President.
